Beach Tennis USA has announced that it will launch its Charleston Open, Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23 at The Windjammer, on 1008 Ocean Blvd. in Isle of Palms, SC. 2005 and 2006 Beach Tennis USA National Champions and Charleston’s own Phil Whitesell and Chris Henderson.
The beach tennis will start on Saturday, August 22, with the Junior and Amateur tournament from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Men’s Pro Division pool play starting at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, kicks off with a Coed Doubles tournament from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Amateur and Junior Divisions will play on the courts that are available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Women’s and Men’s Pro Divisions advanced rounds will be begin at 12:00 p.m. with the finals matches beginning at 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively. The two-day event will conclude at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday night with an after-party at The Windjammer.
Beach tennis, which was launched in the U.S. as a pro and recreational sport in 2005 by real estate developer Marc Altheim, is a true hybrid sport that combines tennis and beach volleyball into one exciting and fast-paced game.
