Cablevision Launches Portuguese Network ‘Radio e Televisao de Portugal’ On iO International Programming Service

Cablevision has launched Portuguese network Radio e Televisao de Portugal (RTPi) on comprehensive iO International programming service.

The Portuguese-language network is now available across Cablevision’s service area on Channel 275 and joins SPT as part of the iO Portuguese programming lineup.

Cablevision Systems Corp. announced today the addition of Portuguese network Radio e Televisao de Portugal (RTPi) to its comprehensive iO International programming service.

The Portuguese-language network is now available across Cablevision’s service area on Channel 275 and joins SPT as part of the iO Portuguese programming lineup.

RTPi is a 24 hour Portuguese language general entertainment channel, owned and operated by the Portuguese government, broadcasting news, films, and sports.

Gary Schanman, Cablevision’s senior vice president, video product management said “The launch of RTPi represents a meaningful expansion of iO Portuguese. Diverse and high quality international programming is an important part of our award-winning digital cable service, iO TV, and the addition of programming like RTPi adds significant value for our Portuguese-speaking customers.”

Paulo Jorge, Head of international distribution, RTPi said “We are pleased to work with a highly reliable service provider like Cablevision, whose service area is densely populated with Portuguese speakers. This carriage agreement will allow RTP to bring the nation of Portugal into our audience’s households, including news, debate and public opinion, Portuguese heritage and culture and Premier League sports events.”

Cablevision offers a wide variety of multi-lingual programming services available in packages and as stand-alone channels.

Customers can choose from 16 international programming options with more than 70 channels of content presented in Spanish, Russian, Italian, Chinese, Korean, Hindi and other languages. iO International is available across the company’s tri-state service area.

With more than 3 million iO TV customers, 96 percent of Cablevision’s cable customers are iO TV digital cable customers, the highest digital penetration in the nation.

iO TV offers customers access to more than 400 channels, including 53 premium movie channels, 46 channels of commercial-free digital music, more than 6,000 titles available on demand at all times, an interactive programming guide, more than 100 high-definition programming services and uniquely valuable and relevant local content through News 12, MSG Varsity and their companion interactive television applications.

HGTV, Food Network Returns To Cablevision Programming line-up

Cablevision Systems Corp. has reached an agreement an agreement with Scripps Networks to distribute HGTV and Food Network. Due to carriage dispute, HGTV and Food Network channels were pulled off from Cablevision’s programming lineup early this month.

Cablevision subscribers were unhappy with this move and both Cablevision and Scripps Networks were negotiating to settle for a solution.

Cablevision started carrying HGTV and Food Network networks from Jan.21.

John Lansing, and executive vice president of Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. and president of the company’s Scripps Networks operating division, said “This is great news for all those television viewers in the New York Tri-State region who enjoy Food Network and HGTV. This is the resolution everyone wanted and to have achieved anything less would have been a profound disappointment. Cablevision has been a valued distribution partner and we’re gratified that together we were able to reach a successful conclusion that will benefit their customers and viewers of our networks.”

John Bickham, Cablevision’s President of Cable & Communications, said “We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we worked with Scripps to reach an agreement that is fair. Cablevision Corporation Drops HGTV and The Food Network Due To Carriage Fee Dispute

Cablevision Corporation failed to reach a carriage agreement with Scripps Networks Interactive and withdrew HGTV and The Food Network.
The existing carriage agreement between Scripps and Cablevision ended on Jan 1, 2010. The dispute between Cablevision and Scripps lay on carriage fee as Scripps demand hike in carriage fee to carry the channels.
Cablevision’s three million subscribers in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut lost access to HGTV and The Food Network.
Last year, DirecTV subscribers lost Versus and Time Warner Cable subscribers lost Fox Network’s programming due to this fee dispute.

Cablevision Launches Optimum WiFi in Bronx, Brooklyn and New Jersey’s Union, Essex, Hudson Counties

Cablevision has deployed its Optimum WiFi to its internet subscribers to give free wireless Internet access in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and New Jersey. Cablevision has activated free wireless Internet access in the areas that include The Bronx and Brooklyn in New York City and Hoboken, Paterson, Newark, Elizabeth, Weehawken, Union City, and Bayonne in New Jersey.

Cablevision’s Optimum WiFi is also broadly available on hundreds of commuter rail platforms and station parking lots across New Jersey Transit, Metro North, and the Long Island Railroad. Earlier this week, Cablevision also announced a large-scale indoor deployment of Optimum WiFi in New York City’s Madison Square Garden complex.

Cablevision Launches ‘JUS Punjabi’ To IO TV Subscribers
